EuroMaidans around the world support aspirations of Ukrainian people for Euro-integration and democratization
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) and its member organizations worldwide supported Sunday's EuroMaidan in Kyiv with numerous EuroMaidans in countries of residence of the Ukrainian diaspora.
Tens of thousands attended peaceful protests in numerous cities, including in EU member states, to demonstrate solidarity with the hundreds of thousands whose voice rang loud and clear on Kyiv's EuroMaidan.
The UWC, with its member organizations, supports the demands of the people of Ukraine, namely:
1) the immediate release from jail of peaceful protestors at EuroMaidans;
2) an end to any pressure on civil society, students and journalists;
3) appropriate punishment of all those responsible for gross human rights violations related
to peaceful protests at EuroMaidans;
4) credible action to advance Ukraine's Euro-integration and the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement;
5) an end to all secret negotiations with Russia's President; and
6) a clear declaration that Ukraine's authorities will not sign any agreement to join the Customs Union.
"The UWC will continue to stand with the people of Ukraine in their fight for the right to live in a European and truly democratic state," affirmed UWC President Eugene Czolij.
The UWC is the international coordinating body for Ukrainian communities in the diaspora representing the interests of over 20 million Ukrainians.
The UWC has member organizations in 33 countries and ties with Ukrainians in 14 additional countries.
Founded in 1967 as a non-profit corporation, the UWC was recognized in 2003 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council as a non-governmental organization (NGO) with special consultative status.
